Hope Church Islington is looking to contract an experienced and practical Verger for 6 hours per week. The Verger will assist in organising a systematic and effective building management and maintenance regime.
It is essential to the mission and ministry of the Church that the buildings are kept as smart, clean, functional and welcoming as possible, and this will be the key role and responsibility of the Verger, in conjunction with the Parish Properties Manager.
This work is variable week to week, depending on circumstances and situations, but will include:
Identifying and reporting any maintenance or building issues
Carrying out small scale ‘handyman’ type works – including changing light bulbs, putting up shelves, painting and decorating, easing doors, replacing/installing locks, etc.
Operating the computerised Building Management System (BMS), used to control heating, lighting, hot water and ventilation
Set-up of furniture and equipment for meetings/events when required
Overseeing access to the building when required
Carrying out relevant Health and Safety checks (Fire alarm, Extinguishers, Emergency Lighting etc.)
The Verger will be line-managed by the Parish Properties Manager, and would meet with them at least once a week to be briefed on priorities.
There will be a degree of flexibility over working patterns, to be discussed and agreed with the line manager. Some weekend and evening work may be required.
The ideal candidate will be:
Experienced in small scale building work and/or maintenance work
Friendly and welcoming
Understanding of the church’s mission and vision
Remuneration: £10.55-£13.00 per hour, depending on experience.
To apply, please send a CV to firstname.lastname@example.org or call us on 0207 700 6886 for an informal conversation.
Closing date for applications: Wednesday 23rd January.
We believe that God has a purpose and call for everyone; at Hope Church we try hard to help people follow that call. As part of this, we help train ordinands (trainee vicars) for St Mellitus College, youth workers for XLP, and have welcomed interns from the Bishop of Stepney, Moorlands College and Worship Central. We are always happy to talk to people about possible placements and internships - in any area of ministry! If you would like to find out more, please get in touch.
