After a brief hiatus, our Men’s Breakfast is making a comeback!
We are thrilled that on this occasion, we will hear from our guest speaker, Jonathan Aitken. Jonathan serves as a Prison Chaplain at HMP Pentonville, having been ordained at St Paul’s Cathedral this June.
Jonathan’s previous career has been eventful. He was a Member of Parliament for 24 years, serving in Government as a Defence Minister and in the Cabinet as Chief Security to the Treasury. Jonathan’s political career ended when he told a lie on oath in a libel action - he pleaded guilty to perjury charges and served an 18-month prison sentence.
During an eventful prison journey Jonathan came to faith. He says that ‘he then made an interesting career change by choosing to go to the only institution in Britain which served worse food and had worse plumbing than a prison’. This was an Anglican Theological College, Wycliffe Hall, Oxford, where he formed a close friendship with our very own Paul Zaphiriou!
Jonathan is the author of seventeen books, including biographies of Richard Nixon, John Newton and Margaret Thatcher; ‘Prayers for People under Pressure’; and his autobiography. After many years of voluntary outreach mission, prison ministry and service on Criminal Justice charities, Jonathan felt a call to ordination, and was ordained by the Bishop of London on 30 June 2018.
With a full English, engaging talk and lively discussion, this is an event for all Men of Hope.
We would love to see you there!
